The Town of Lizton, Indiana is an incorporated municipal town in the State of Indiana, Hendricks County, Union Township.

As of the 2020 United States Census, the Town had a population of 511 residents. Lizton is one of three towns, with Pittsboro and North Salem, as well as unincorporated areas, that comprise North West Hendricks School Corporation. Today, the Town of Lizton encompasses 0.66 square miles.

History:

  • 1965: North West Hendricks School Corporation established to consolidate education services across Middle, Union and Eel River Townships
  • 1910: State Bank of Lizton established
  • 1909: Town officially incorporated as Town of Lizton
  • 1873: Name changed from New Elizabeth to Lizton (shortened for postal purposes)
  • 1854: Post Office established
  • 1851: Area platted by Jesse Veiley as New Elizabeth, named after his wife
  • 1831: Jesse Veiley settled in Union Township with his father, Isaac Veiley
  • 1818: Treaty of St. Mary’s ceded approximately 875,000 acres in north-central Indiana from Native American tribes, including Miami and Delaware, including present-day Lizton

Prominent Residents:

  • NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon lived in Lizton during his childhood and through high school
  • NFL Tight End Peyton Hendershot live in Lizton and attended Tri-West High School, contributing to the teams 2014 3A State Championship.
